Job Summary
The Controller will oversee financial management and accounting for Ho’ōla Nā Pua including the development of internal control policies and procedures. This position requires a strong nonprofit accounting background, a high proficiency with QuickBooks, and experience with tracking grant financial compliance and expenditures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in an accounting-related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience
  • High level of proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge of GAAP with strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Nonprofit experience is highly desired
Responsibilities
  • Oversee financial management and ensure financial practices are in compliance with policies and procedures
  • Work with COO to prepare annual operating budget
  • Prepare financial reports monthly and as needed
  • Prepare monthly financial forecasts summarizing current and projected financial position
  • General ledger reconciliation
  • Reconcile donor database with QuickBooks and ensure all revenue is coded and classified properly
  • Maintain accurate records of all grant awards and ensure corresponding expenses are tracked and in compliance with the grant parameters
  • Reconcile bank, investment, credit cards, and other accounts
  • Maintain appropriate records of finance related documents
  • Provide monthly general excise tax filings
  • Receive AP invoices and seek appropriate approvals for payment and ensure appropriate coding and classification of expenses in QuickBooks
  • Process expense reimbursements for staff and volunteers
  • Work with outsourced payroll provider to manage bi-weekly payroll processing
  • Manage internal finance procedures according to GAAP
  • Manage coding and classification of all revenue and expenses according to GAAP
  • Maintain amortization, depreciation, and fixed asset schedules
  • Oversee annual audit with outside accounting firm and ensure all necessary documents are provided for the audit
  • Oversee preparation of annual IRS Form 990
  • Provide year-end accounting including 1099 preparation and filings
  • Evaluate finance-related databases, software, online tools, and payment methods for effectiveness, cost-benefit analysis, and efficiency
  • Other accounting assistance and finance management as needed
