  1. 85th Anniversary Member Reception

Happy Birthday, HSCPA! The Hawaii Society of CPAs was incorporated in October of 1932. On August 23, 2017, members ranging from Millennials to the Greatest Generation came together to celebrate HSCPA’s 85th anniversary at the Prince Waikiki. It was a time of reminiscing, meeting up with former co-workers, college acquaintances, former HSCPA leadership, and welcoming new members.

A big MAHALO to our major sponsor, Deloitte, for their commitment to making a difference in the profession through its support of the scholarship program and the new generation of young professionals!

  3. 2017 Give Back Day Beach Clean-up

This year, the HSCPA coordinated it’s Give Back Day with Earth Day to celebrate the environment and raise public awareness about pollution. Making a difference in the community that we all live and play in is a given and it takes working together for this common goal. On Saturday, April 22nd, about 50 Y-CPA professionals and students from UH Manoa and HPU gathered at Ala Moana Beach Park for HSCPA’s annual Give Back Day. While the weather forecast did not seem promising, we were committed to following through with this event which was rescheduled from April. It turned out to be a beautiful day!

We broke out into groups to play Gimme Gimme to see which team could find specific trash items in the Magic Island area. Everyone returned with a lot of interesting trash. Congratulations to Team Siete from HPU!

Our special thanks to the volunteers and our sponsor, Robert H.Y. Leong & Company, CPAs! Mr. Leong and his firm have been our biggest supporter of this community service project for many years – we appreciate it very much!

The Y-CPAs are proud of its commitment to community service and invite others to join in the support. Let’s beautify our surroundings. Be kind to the environment and those around you by picking up trash when you see it lying around. It doesn't matter who left it there, just pick it up!

  5. 2016 56th Annual Conference

It was an ‘awakening” moment with a visit from Darth Vader and Chewbacca at the recent 56th Annual Conference on June 24, 2016. Attendees went on an EPIC adventure with great speakers, informative topics, networking, camaraderie and fun. CPAs representing all segments of the profession were in attendance at this annual CPE ‘social’.

Thank you to all who attended, wonderful speakers, and to our valuable sponsors: Corporate Lunch Sponsor – American Savings Bank; Conference Partners – Ceridian Hawaii and Thomson Reuters.

  6. 2015 HSCPA 55th Annual Conference

Awesome, inspirational, thought-provoking, camaraderie . . . A good time was had by all! Earning CPE in tough subjects like Revenue Recognition Standards and Ethics was worth it. Attendees were well fed from morning to evening, gained new knowledge and had fun at the same time.

The sold-out 55th Annual Conference fulfilled the mandatory Ethics CPE requirement for over 200 CPAs. It was an annual reunion for many who reconnected with colleagues from the past, and served as a great networking opportunity for their businesses. Attendees included young and seasoned CPAs in public practice, business & industry, education and government.

The Annual Election and Business Meeting kicked off the Conference as voting members elected the 2015-2016 officers and directors. We recognized and welcomed our Conference partners: American Savings Bank, Aon Affinity/Finance Insurance, Ceridian, Thomson Reuters and XCM Solutions for their partnership and support in making the Conference a success.

Speaker Rich Paul, Partner with Deloitte (NJ), did a great job educating the group and providing an overview of the new revenue recognition standard that has effectively replaced hundreds of pieces of guidance in current U.S. GAAP with a principle-based approach, and what that could mean to your accounting for revenue recognition.

Ron Heller dominated the Conference with his Professional Ethics presentation and provided valuable insight on using the CPA designation, having an individual and a firm permit to practice, and Hawaii’s mandatory peer review law in effect.

Lunch was fun as the Hawaii Prince set up our own street grinds by staging Brianna’s Food Truck and Ono’s Lunch Wagon. Attendees (and Prince staff) had fun ordering up and serving plate lunches and beverages. Very onolicious!

After a hard day’s work, everyone looked forward to Happy Hour with the only alcohol-serving food in town. Gourmet pizzas and salads filled us up again before the drive home.

Thank you to our special sponsors . . . Gabe Lee of American Savings Bank – the HSCPA is grateful for the 11th year of partnership and support. We had a great time with fun giveaways from with Conference partners: Alan Taguchi of Finance Insurance/Aon Affinity, Teri Correa and Peggy Maxwell-Luke of Ceridian, Barbara Howath of Thomson Reuters, and Larry Workman of XCM Solutions LLC. Thank you for helping to make the Conference a success!

Join us next year at the 56th Annual Conference on June 24, 2016. You don’t want to miss an exciting program planned for you!
