Accountant IV at City and County of Honolulu

Job Description

Performs difficult professional accounting work in the maintenance, revision and/or development of an accounting system; analyzes fiscal data; provides interpretive and advisory services to management; and performs other related duties as required.

There are currently three vacancies with the Department of Budget and Fiscal Services, one in the Accounting Division, one in the Treasury Division.

If you qualify for the position, your name will be established to an eligible list. This list may be used to fill current and/or future vacancies in this and/or other departments.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

• Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in accounting or a related field with at least 12 semester credit hours in accounting or auditing courses. (Note: Six of the 12 credits must be above the elementary course level and from an accredited four-year college or university.)
• Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
• Three years of experience in professional accounting. Such experience must have demonstrated the knowledge of the principles and practices of commercial and governmental accounting; preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports; and the ability to devise and install accounting methods, techniques and procedures; prepare complete and accurate reports and standards; analyze data, detect errors and correct inconsistencies in accounting records.
• Substitution: A Master's degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university will substitute for one of the required three years of professional accounting experience. You must submit evidence of your Master's degree in Accounting in order to be given credit.
