He leads the Withers Tokyo office and also the international corporate tax practice in the Asia-Pacific region from the Singapore office. Withers is a leading global law firm serving as trusted advisors to families, founders, fiduciaries and businesses.
Eric's practice involves advising individual and business clients on a broad range of international tax planning and corporate tax advisory matters including investment funds, M&A, cross-border transactions, real estate investments, data centres, renewable energy projects and technology matters. Eric also specializes in advising high net worth individuals and wealthy Asian families with regards to Japan inheritance tax and Japan-U.S. cross-border tax planning. He specializes in structuring investment funds focusing on the Asia-Pacific region, and has significant experience in structuring funds to invest into the Asia Pacific region. Eric has advised clients in over $60 billion of international corporate, real estate and private equity transactions.
A native of Hawaii, Eric is both an attorney and a Hawaii CPA (not in public practice). Eric began his tax advisor career in Hawaii, where he practiced public accounting in Honolulu at Coopers & Lybrand and law at Cades Schutte for 15 years before he moved to Tokyo in 1999. Since then, Eric has been based in Tokyo and Singapore practicing international tax law as the practice leader for Asia-Pacific with global law firms for over 25 years.
