Objectives

After completing this course the participant will be able to:

  • List the exclusion limitations for married and single taxpayers.
  • Advise clients on the appropriate timing of the home sale.
  • List the relevant factors that determine the taxpayer's "principal residence."
  • Determine the taxpayer's appropriate principal residence when the taxpayer owns multiple homes.
  • Explain the "non-qualified use" rules.
  • Identify appropriate authorities for the home-sale exclusion.
